The lamps may be imprinted with UVB Narrowband 311 NM but are they the genuine Philips article? The answer in NO. The lamps must be branded Philips Narrowband TL/01, remember these lamps are the only ones that are medically approved.

The lamps MUST be branded "Philips Narrowband TL 100W/01" Remember, these lamps are the only ones that are medically approved. N.B. Philips do NOT supply medical lamps to unqualified traders.

Beware of websites trying to mislead you. Do not be deceived by a photo of a Philips lamp displayed on an unqualified traders' website. Some traders' state, that although their lamps are not branded "Philips" they are in fact manufactured by Philips. DO NOT BELIEVE THIS!!

Look for the trademark name, i.e. "PHILIPS" Fake lamps will not reflect this and therefore are not sold VAT free (for chronic conditions)

The one question that MUST be answered PRIOR to purchase is "DO YOUR UNITS COME FITTED WITH PHILIPS TL/01 UVB Narrowband lamps, as used in hospitals Worldwide?" if you phone them & the response is either from an answer machine or call centre, BE ALERT. This should "RING ALARM BELLS" They do not wish to personally answer the question involved, &, if eventually you do receive a call back, probably they will suggest, in addition, that you purchase other unproven health care products from them. All units we supply are fitted with GENUINE PHILIPS LAMPS & are delivered by our courier. NO OTHER PERSON IS IN THE EQUATION, i.e. Skinmatters Bristol = Direct Delivery to the purchaser.

We want you to have 100% full knowledge of our products prior to purchase and would want you to be 100% satisfied that you have purchased the best.

Most unbranded versions of UVB Narrowband Lamps (311nm) inported from China will not give the UVB content of the Lamp. Why?

A 6ft Philips TL/01 UVB Narrowband Lamp (311 nm) has a UVB content greater than 17%

  • 6ft Lamps are 100 watt in strength.
  • 5ft Lamps are 80 watt in strength.
  • 4ft Lamps are only 40 watt.
  • 2ft Lamp is even less 24 watt.
  • The shorter the Lamp length, results in reduced wattage and strength.

Does the website give medical research quoting Philips Lamps but at the same time not offering Philips brand Lamps? Always insist on Philips Lamps.

If the website claims to be working in partnership with Philips, It's strange that Philips are not aware of this!

Yes. Psoriasis often appears between the ages of 15 and 35, but it can develop at any age. Approximately 10 percent to 15 percent of those with psoriasis get it before age 10. Some infants have psoriasis, although this is considered rare.

Psoriasis most commonly appears on the scalp, knees, elbows and torso. But psoriasis can develop anywhere, including the nails, palms, soles, genitals, and very infrequently on the face. Often the lesions appear symmetrically, which means in the same place on the right and left sides of the body.

No. There are various forms of psoriasis with plaque psoriasis being the most common. Other forms are:

  • Guttate [GUH-tate], characterized by small dot-like lesions
  • Pustular, characterized by weeping lesions and intense scaling
  • Inverse, characterized by severe inflammation
  • Erythrodermic [eh-REETH-ro-der-mik], characterized by intense shedding and redness of the skin.

Psoriasis can range from mild to moderate to very severe.

No single psoriasis treatment works for everyone, but something will work for most people. It is hard to predict what will work for a particular individual; however, it is important to be open-minded and willing to work with your doctor / dermatologist to find a treatment that will work for you. Learn more about treatment options for psoriasis.

There is no cure, but many different treatments, both topical (on the skin) and systemic (throughout the body), can clear psoriasis for periods of time. People often need to try out different treatments before they find one that works for them.

No special blood tests or diagnostic tools exist to diagnose psoriasis. A dermatologist (doctor who specializes in skin diseases) or other health care provider usually examines the affected skin and determines if it is psoriasis. Sometimes a piece of skin is examined under the microscope.

While the exact causes of psoriasis have yet to be discovered, we know that the immune system and genetics play major roles in its development. Most researchers agree that the immune system is somehow mistakenly triggered, which speeds up the growth cycle of skin cells among other immune reactions.

Psoriasis is not contagious. It is not something you can "catch" or that others can catch from you. Psoriasis lesions are not infectious.

Psoriasis (pronounced sore-EYE-ah-sis) is a chronic (lifelong) disease of the immune system that varies from person to person, both in severity and how it responds to treatments.
